This project was undertaken by Martyn & Sarah in 2008. They imported a 1958 split screen camper van from South Africa and enjoyed it for a while, until they realised that its performance is less than impressive. Shortly after they decided to go for the lot and upgrade the engine, suspension, steering, brakes and also take on the interior. The car received low mileage MY2003 Subaru Impreza WRX engine, early Porshe 911 gearbox, rack-and-pinion steering, hydraulic suspension and custom made disc brakes. All of the above was done in hope to transform the cars performance department, but required a substantial re-wiring to go with the modern engine management system. When we starded the job we found out that the original Subaru wiring loom has been already modified to disable unnecessary circuits, such as air con and ABS, but left unconnected to anything but the engine and ECU.
BM Conversions have stripped out and rearanged the previously modified impreza's loom to accomodate for the new ECU location. More engine control as well as protection circuits (radiator fan, fuel pump with sender unit, fuse and relay boxes) were also added.
A whole new vehicle loom was then designed and installed to modernize the half a century old headlight and other original chassis circuts. Also the check engine and immobiliser unit dashboard warning lights, aftermarket rev. counter and other additional gauges such as oil and water temp or vac/boost, door activated interior lighting and throttle activated charge cooler circuits were accounted for. The fuse count was increased from staggering six to over 30 for increased safety and comfort.

"I had previously emailed BM Conversions regarding the m50 conversion to a E39 523i and was told it fits the E36 & E39. So a few days later i ordered a kit online. Chris kept me up to date on despatch times and received it on the day he promised. The kit looks well and comes with a full instruction booklet.
I left my car and manifold i was given along with the kit, with my ex BMW mechanic on a monday morning, on the wednesday he still didnt have it finished and complained about the time it took to do this and on the thursday he told me he wasnt finishing the job. The car was in pieces. I phoned chris a few times and he said the mechanic musnt have read the instruction booklet before he had started, being a ex BMW mechanic i thought he would have known to remove and install the kit/manifold, but no i was shocked at this news. I called down on the thursday evening bout 6pm and had to remove the manifold myself as it was sucking in air at the head/manifold seals. I phoned chris again and he asked was i sure the manifold was a 325 one rather than a 320, found out it was a 320 one. My mechanic did mention he had to cut the manifold seals because the ones in the kit were to big. You would think he would have suspected something was wrong. On friday morning i had to source a 325 manifold, but beforehand i called chris again to make sure i knew what i was looking for and he told me what to look for ( 2.5 stamped on the manifold under the hole where the throttle body goes) and then he emailed me photos of what to look for. Anyway i got a manifold an had to refit everything myself ( i have no great mechanical knowledge) but i had it all finished, up and running in under 2 hours.
I could not have done this without chris's help and very friendly approach, as well as a very complete kit with instructions.
I would have no problems recommending BM conversions to anyone, it is the best company i have dealings with for a long time. Highly, highly recommended.
